Christopher Chung, CEO of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC), has been appointed to the U.S. Investment Advisory Council (IAC). Chung was appointed by United States Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo and will serve a two-year term. He is joined by 33 representatives from state and regional economic development teams, associations and global businesses from across the nation.

The IAC is a federal advisory council that serves as the U.S. Secretary of Commerce’s principal advisory council for retaining and promoting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the United States. The IAC provides a forum for council members to discuss FDI issues, identify potential barriers for potential foreign investors and offer solutions. Since its establishment in 2016, the council has provided recommendations for workforce development, infrastructure improvements and how to maintain the nation’s status as a leading destination for FDI. The IAC can have up to 40 appointees.

This is the second appointment this year Chung has received from Secretary Raimondo. At the end of May, he was appointed to the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship (NACIE), which advises the secretary on ways the federal government can advance the nation’s economic growth through innovation, technology, job growth, business development and equity. Chung is currently the only appointee to serve on both NACIE and the IAC.

“North Carolina is a major player in the FDI space. Under Christopher’s leadership, FDI projects this year make up 30% of the EDPNC’s overall project pipeline, which is an increase from 21% at the beginning of 2022,” said Gene McLaurin, chairman of the EDPNC Board of Directors. “His knowledge and leadership in this field will be a resource to the council in further growing FDI in the United States. The EDPNC Board of Directors and I congratulate Christopher on his appointment.”
