Sites in Edgecombe, Lenoir Counties Granted Funds by EDPNC to Attract Businesses

April 2, 2026

The sites utilized the EDPNC’s Megasite and Selectsite Readiness programs, which help local communities attract more jobs

Two industrial sites in North Carolina received funding this month from the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina to help prepare the properties for future business investment.

The two sites – Kingsboro Business Park in Edgecombe County and the NCGTP North Site in Lenoir County – participated in the Megasite Readiness Program and Selectsite Readiness Program, respectively.

Edgecombe County received assistance of $2,637,650 through the Megasite Readiness Program to provide significant public water system upgrades that will directly serve Kingsboro Business Park. Specifically, these improvements will include the replacement and increased capacity of the existing booster pump station located adjacent to the park.

In December 2024, Lenoir County received funding to conduct site due diligence for the NCGTP North Site. That work identified the need for a Phase II Environmental Assessment, and the county has now been awarded $48,300 to complete the study.

Preparing sites in advance – and thus reducing the amount of time it takes a company to become operational – is one of the most important factors organizations consider when choosing where to locate new facilities.

“The Megasite and Selectsite Readiness programs have already been successful in helping attract new jobs and investment to North Carolina,” said Garrett Wyckoff, Product Development Program Manager for the EDPNC. “These two projects in Edgecombe and Lenoir counties are great examples of local governments using state resources to strengthen their competitiveness for new industry.”

About the Megasite Readiness Program

The North Carolina General Assembly established the Megasite Readiness Program as part of the state’s 2022-23 budget legislation, and substantial funding was added the next year. The aim of the program is to identify potential megasites throughout the state, and support local governments in upgrading infrastructure and performing other due diligence to make them more desirable for companies. Megasites are typically defined as sites over 1,000 acres in size that can house one or more large corporate tenants.

About the Selectsite Readiness Program

The North Carolina General Assembly enacted the NC Selectsite Readiness Program during the 2023-24 legislative budget as a complement to the Megasite Readiness Program. The Selectsite Readiness Program focuses on smaller properties, some of which are under 100 acres, that are still capable of attracting advanced manufacturing companies and new jobs to communities across North Carolina.
