Briolf USA LLC, the U.S. subsidiary of the family-run international industrial group Briolf, announced it will bring its first ever U.S. manufacturing facility to Union County, North Carolina, creating 100 jobs. The company will invest $30.5 million in Monroe, where the facility will serve the operations for Roberlo, a coatings manufacturer and Briolf’s main subsidiary.

Briolf was founded in Spain over 50 years ago, beginning with developing and manufacturing paints and repair solutions for auto refinishing and industrial sectors. The company has grown to eight subsidiaries all around the world in various market sectors including glass packaging, construction adhesives and composites. More than 1,000 employees in Spain and Brazil work for Briolf, which was recently ranked in the top 25 of Europe’s largest coatings companies. Briolf is the latest Spanish company to come to North Carolina, joining Grifols Therapeutics, Hurtado Furniture and Daumar. Between 2014 and 2023, Spanish companies have announced $1 billion in investment and 529 new jobs in North Carolina.

“Foreign direct investment is a large contributor to North Carolina’s economy, and we welcome Briolf USA as part of the over 2,500 plastics and chemicals companies in the state,” said Christopher Chung, CEO of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC). “With the top business climate in the country, the largest manufacturing workforce in the Southeast, three Tier-1 research universities, and proximity to customers and supply chain components, North Carolina offers companies like Briolf USA what they need to successfully expand their global footprint.”

The EDPNC, including its European Office, worked with Catalonia Trade and Investment, an economic development organization for Barcelona and the greater Catalonia region of Spain, on the initial stages of the project. The EDPNC then coordinated with the North Carolina Department of Commerce and other state and local entities over 18 months to support the project from the initial location search and site visits to the announcement.

The company’s new positions will include engineers, managers, and operations and support staff, with the potential to create an annual payroll impact in the community of more than $5 million per year.

The Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina would like to recognize the North Carolina Department of Commerce as well as other key partners involved in this project, including Governor Roy Cooper, the North Carolina General Assembly, the North Carolina Community College System, Union County, the City of Monroe, Monroe-Union County Economic Development Commission and the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance.
