Webinar

Join us for an Export Education webinar, HTS Schedule B Classification, on Tuesday, May 20, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Program Overview:

Many companies are exposing themselves unnecessarily to risk by not regularly reviewing or understanding their own classifications. Importers and exporters are required to use reasonable care and due diligence in determining accurate classifications. Why not learn how to begin that process and keep your company in compliance?

This program will help you begin to understand how to use the HTS for imports and the Schedule B listing for exports. We will learn and review the six GRI used to classify every product. We will go through instructor and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) based sample classifications using each of the GRIs. By using CROSS, we will show how CBP reviews binding ruling requests and what that means for your products. After the training, you will know where to go for help and what to look at when beginning to look at your own products.

Topics Covered:

  • Discover how, why, and when the Harmonized Tariff Schedule was established.
  • Understand the General Rules of Interpretation (GRI) and their role in every classification.
  • Explore the roles of customs brokers, freight forwarders, and importers/exporters of record.
  • Learn the difference between Schedule B and HTS numbers.
  • Master the use of the Customs Ruling Online Search System (CROSS) for classifications.
  • Review specific classification examples provided by the instructor and CBP.
  • Understand Chapter 98 for proper classification of US goods returned, repairs, and warranties.
  • Learn the abbreviations for commodity classification and units of quantity/measure.
  • Differentiate between duties, user fees, and antidumping/countervailing duties.
